Who we are and what this covers

This site is The Biz Lists, a directory of shopping and dining businesses in the United States and Canada. It is operated by Citation Vault LLC. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Citation Vault LLC.

This policy covers this website. It says what information we collect, where it comes from, how we use it and what choices you have.

Business listing information

Listings come from public data or from the business owner. Public data means details a business has already made public, such as its own website and its public business profiles, including Google.

A listing holds a business name, category, address and phone number. It shows hours and a website when we have them. Each profile has a short description we write from the business's public details. A listing can include a person's name when that name is part of the business's public details.

If you own a listed business, or you are named in a listing, you can ask us to correct or remove it. Email connect@thebizlists.com or follow the steps on the corrections page. We act on requests we can tie to the business.

Google Reviews

Profiles can show a business's star rating, review count and review quotes from Google. They are labelled Google Reviews. A quote shows the reviewer's name as Google shows it in public.

We do not show reviewer photos or links to reviewer profiles. Review quotes belong to their authors. Ratings and quotes can be out of date.

If you wrote a review quoted here, you can ask us to remove the quote. A business can ask us to correct a rating or remove a quote. Email connect@thebizlists.com with the address of the listing page.

Information you give us

The site has no visitor accounts and no sign in. When you email us, we receive your email address and what you write. That covers a listing request, a correction and a removal request.

When a business buys a Featured listing, the card payment is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store card numbers. Stripe tells us that a payment was made and which business made it.

Information collected automatically

Our pages are delivered by a content delivery network run by Bunny. It receives your IP address and the address of the page you asked for, as any web host does. Those requests can be kept in hosting logs.

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits. It collects the pages you view, your rough location, details of your device and browser, and how you reached the site. Google explains its side in the Google privacy policy, and offers a Google Analytics opt out add on for your browser.

We use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors use the site through behaviour data, heatmaps and session replay. It records clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, with typed text masked. Microsoft explains its side in the Microsoft privacy statement and the Clarity terms.

We also use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. They show us search terms and clicks in total. They put nothing on your device and do not identify you.

If you switch between light and dark, that choice is kept in your own browser. It is not sent to us.

Cookies and your choices

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity set cookies in your browser. They use them to tell one visit from another. The light or dark choice is kept in browser storage and is not a cookie.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works the same without them. You can also install the Google Analytics opt out add on.

This site does not show a cookie banner, and it does not change what it does in answer to a signal from your browser. Your browser settings are the way to refuse these cookies.

How we use information

We use listing information to publish the directory and keep it accurate. We use what you send us to answer you, to add, fix or remove a listing, and to run a Featured listing.

We use analytics and session data to see which pages are used, to find problems and to improve the site. Hosting logs help keep the site running and stop abuse.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share information with the companies that help us run the site.

Google provides analytics and search tools. Microsoft provides Clarity and Bing Webmaster Tools. Bunny delivers the pages.

Stripe handles card payments. Our email provider carries the messages you send us and our replies.

Each of them handles data under its own terms and privacy policy. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for. A listing stays up while the business fits the directory, or until it is removed on request. Google, Microsoft, Bunny and Stripe each keep their data under their own settings and policies.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you. You can ask us to correct it or delete it. Email connect@thebizlists.com.

Residents of California and some other US states, and residents of Canada, have privacy rights under their own laws. We take a request from anyone the same way, wherever they live. We may ask for enough detail to tie a request to you or to your business.

Children

This site is for adults looking up businesses. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. Pages are served over an encrypted connection. No website can promise perfect security, and we do not.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date below.
